“PROBLEMS OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION IN A MULTILINGUAL SOCIETY”

On November 29, 2019 at the Atyrau State University named after Kh. Dosmukhamedov hosted the Regional Scientific and Practical Conference of undergraduates, students and learners "Problems of Intercultural Communication in a Multilingual Society," dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the university, organized by the Department of Russian Philology.

With greeting words to the participants of conference were adressed by the Vice-Rector of Scientific Work Idrisov S.N., Dean of the Multilingual Faculty of Sultangubiyeva A.A. and Dean of Student Self-Government Orynbayeva M.

The conference was attended by undergraduates, university students and learners of colleges, NIS, gymnasium schools from the cities of Atyrau, Uralsk, Aktobe and Aktau.

The main goal of the conference is to involve young people in scientific and research work, to the current problems of a multilingual society at the present stage.

The conference was conducted in three directions:

1. Language, literature and culture in a multilingual society.

2. Foreign languages as a means of intercultural communication.

3. The role of media in the development of intercultural communication.

The conference discussed the peculiarities of the language policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan aimed at trilingualism. Speakers expressed the view that the spread of multilingualism in the world is a natural process, driven by fundamental changes in the economy, politics, culture and education. It was noted that language training is the key to the professional development of a future competitive specialist. In order to be successful, a modern person needs to master several languages on a professional level. The participants of the conference in their articles expressed the view that today 's young man should be multilingual and multicultural, at the same time preserving cultural traditions, cultural code of his native people should be a priority.

The reports made in Russian, Kazakh and English were heard with great interest. Participants demonstrated a fairly high level of independent scientific research.

During the discussion, the situation with multilingualism in Kazakhstan and in the world was considered.

All participants of the conference received certificates.
