Atyrau State University after Kh.Dosmukhamedov - is one of the higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan with its unique history and rich experience in the education system that trains competitive specialists of international level.

The university was established on June 14, 1950 as a teacher’s institute. In the first year 3 branches were opened, for each of which 50 students were enrolled, who studied in Kazakh and Russian languages.

In 1955, the teacher's institute was transformed into a pedagogical institute, and in 1994 - into the Atyrau University. In the same year, he was named after an outstanding figure, encyclopedic scholar Khalel Dosmukhamedov. The educational institution that passed the state certification acquired the status of the first regional university in the Western region of Kazakhstan.

In 2005, a quality management system was introduced, aimed at ensuring compliance with international educational standards. In accordance with this, the higher education institution became the owner of the certificate of "ISO 9001-2000" and the “National Center for Expertise and Certification” JSC West Kazakhstan branch of the organization “Moody International Certification”.

In 2007, the Atyrau State University after Khalel Dosmukhamedov participated in the exhibition “Altyn Sapa” in order to identify the winners of the contest “For achievements in the field of quality” established by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and as an active organization was awarded a Letter of thanks.

On September 18, 2009, the university signed an agreement with the Great Charter of Universities (Bologna), which testifies to the great opportunities and achievements of the higher education institution.

In 2010, the Atyrau State University after Khalel Dosmukhamedov joined the 600 world universities, united by the Great Charter of universities, and became a full participant in the Bologna process. According to the requirements of the Bologna process, students in the university have the opportunity to receive two diplomas, to complete the training in a short time.

According to the results of the ranking of higher educational institutions, the University takes the 6th place among multi-disciplinary universities of Kazakhstan.

University policy is the provision of quality education and competitiveness of specialists, the achievement of the world level.

The university trains specialists of a bachelor degree (full-time, part-time and distance learning) in 46 specialties and magistracies in 14 specialties.

The university employs more than 500 teachers, including 200 doctors and candidates of science, professors and associate professors.

The university has a developed infrastructure, which includes 5 academic buildings, 2 student houses for 880 seats, a sports and cultural complex "Zhaiyk", a medical center, a scientific library.

Laboratory for the preparation of electronic textbooks, an information technology center, a printing house, the TV radio center, the electronic educational hall, an Internet club, educational laboratories equipped with modern technical equipment, computer classes effectively are used for the purpose of quality education for young people.

The graduates' fair is held annually in order to increase the level of employment and provide orders for qualified personnel, in which regional foreign companies take part, representatives of banks of different levels, responsible persons of the regional education department. Master-classes are held. Work is underway on the state program "With the diploma - to the village".
