The Department of Biology and Fisheries has been operating since 1963. Since 1964, it has been accepting applicants in the specialized subjects of biology and chemistry. It trains specialists in the field of education, natural sciences and agriculture.
At present, the following are working in the department on a regular basis: 2 doctors of science, 4 candidates of science, 2 PhD doctors, 7 masters, senior lecturers, 2 teachers and 1 laboratory assistant.

For 2024 "Microbiological methods and development of technology for obtaining live and granulated feed, using secondary raw materials for sturgeon and other fish species. The project leader is Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Sagyndykova S.Z.

Educational programs 6B05101- Biology, 7M05101- biology with the basics of microbiology works closely with the following organizations; Atyrau regional branch of the republican state institution "Republican Methodological Center for Phytosanitary Diagnostics and Forecasts", Committee of State Inspection in the agro-industrial complex of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Atyrau Anti-plague Station, Center for IVF and Reproductive Medicine "ECOMED", Institute of Molecular Medicine, etc.
Dual training system
Since 2021, the educational program "6B08401 - Ichthyology and Fisheries" has been training agricultural specialists on the basis of an agreement on targeted training of specialists of the dual training educational organization with the Republican State Enterprise "Atyrau Sturgeon Fish Hatchery".
