The Department of "General University foreign languages" of Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau State University was established and started its work on September 1, 1996. The Department was made by experienced teachers Gilaeva M. G., R.N. Nazkenova, K. T. Temirgaliyev. From 1996 to 2015, the head of the Department was I. R. Kudzhanov, G. T. Bayseuova, T. A. Khalukhayeva and S. K. Makenova.
Since 2001, due to the large influx of foreign investors and the increasing need for specialists in the region, the Department of translation studies was established. Senior teachers who lead the educational process at the primary Department, V. A. Leonova, can. of ph. Sciences Z. N. Karimova, G. S. Mustagalieva, Zh. G. Ingamova, M. K. Kozhakhmetova. In the 2001-2006 academic year, the Department of "Translation studies" was established, the head of the Department senior teacher G. S. Mustagalieva was appointed.
In 2006, the Department was divided into two departments: "Fundamentals of translation" and "Theory of translation". Head of the Department "Fundamentals of translation", senior teacher G.S. Mustagaliyeva, head of the Department "Theory of translation" of G. Zh. was Zhenisova. In 2008, the head of the Department "Theory of translation" was the can. of ph. Sc. Z.N. Karimova.
In 2009, two departments were reorganized and given the name "Theory and practice of translation", the head of which was appointed candidate of philological Sciences Aigul Aitmukhanovna Sultangubiyeva.
In the 2015-2016 academic year, the Department of "Foreign languages" and "Theory and practice of translation" was merged and renamed the Department of "Translation studies and foreign languages".
Since 2015 head of the Department Khayrzhanova Akmaral Khatifovna. Currently, the Department has 22 teachers, including 4 candidates of philological Sciences, 1 PhD, 8 senior teachers, 6 masters, 3 teachers. Adviser of the Department Bisenbayeva R. N.
In the 2014-2015 academic year, the Caspian Modern College signed an agreement between faculties and colleges to establish a branch of the Department.
