In 1977, a special Department "Geometry and computational mathematics" was created at the faculty of physics and mathematics of the Guryev state pedagogical Institute in order to provide the educational process with subjects of geometry and computational mathematics for the implementation of the planned main tasks of school reform. Head of the Department was appointed candidate of physic-mathematical Sciences associate Professor Zh. M. Rashbayev.
In those years, the Department existed only one laboratory, consisting of several electronic-keyboard semi-automatic computers of the "Reinmetall" type and a third-generation computer "Nairi-2", a method for entering information and punched tape. In the 1985-1986 academic year, in all secondary educational institutions of the former Soviet Union, in accordance with the main directions of school reform, a new subject "Computer Science and fundamentals of computer technology" was included in the curriculum of General and secondary special schools. The new subject was taught by qualified specialists who teach in General education and secondary special schools in Guryev and Mangystau regions. With the aim of their training was a joint Department of "Geometry and computational mathematics", "Algebra and methods of teaching mathematics" and reorganized the Department of "computer science".
In the 1986-1987 academic year, the Department created the laboratory "Informatics and computer engineering". The educational process is equipped with a personal computer "KUVT-86", "Electronics", "Corvette", "Agat" "BK-0010", "YAMAHA-MSX" (Yamaha-2"), in subsequent years Compaq, IBM PC-386, 486 and Pentium-IV.
In order to widely implement modern information technologies in the educational process, in 1996 the Department was divided into two parts: "Algebra and geometry" and "Computer Science and new information technologies of education" ("I and OZHIT"). The head of the Department "Informatics and new information technologies of education" was appointed associate Professor A. Khammetov. Since 2002, the faculty of physics and mathematics has started training specialists in the specialties "010500-computer Science", "010200-Applied mathematics", "030200-Physics and computer science".
In the 2003-2009 academic year, the head of the Department is Candidate of physic-mathematical Sciences G. A. Saltanova was appointed.
In 2004, The Department of "Computer Science and new information technologies of education" is divided into special departments "Computer and computing technologies" and University-wide departments "Computer Science". The Department has opened new specialties "050111- Computer Science", "050602- Computer Science".
In the 2009-2010 academic year, candidate of physic-mathematical Sciences Zh. G. Dzhumamukhambetov headed the Department.
In the 2010-2011 academic year, as the head of the Department worked doctor of pedagogical science, Professor, S. K. Kariyev. This academic year, the majors 6M011100 - computer Science and 6M060200 - computer Science were opened in the master's program, and the first masters were accepted.
In the 2011-2013 academic year, the Department of "Information systems and computer engineering" was renamed the Department of Informatics. In the period from 2011 to 2017, the head of the Department held the position of candidate of physic-mathematical Sciences A. Zh. Mailybaeva.
A. Zh. Department of computer science under the direction of A. Zh. Mailybaeva received the status of 28.02.2013 specialized accreditation at the levels of magistracy, bachelor`s, holds a state license of MES RK series AA No. 13002658, eligible for specialty training in the period from 2014 to 2019 academic year.
From December 2017 to the present, he has been working as the head of the Department of "Informatics" Candidate of tech. Etc. Sciences Zh. T. Kabylkhamit performs. With the 2017-2018 academic year, the faculty of the Department of Informatics opens branches in computer science in the Nazarbayev Intellectual school studying chemistry and biology directions in Atyrau, in a specialized technical gymnasium, K. Satpayev school-gymnasium, No. 19, Zh. Nazhimedenov secondary school No. 2 with profound studying Informatics in English language. In this regard, based on the K. Satpayev school-gymnasium No. 19 on April 27, 2019, a seminar was held on the theme: "Updated education-the key to effective quality".
Etc. Under the guidance of Zh. T. Kabylkhamit, the Department of computer science at the levels of bachelor's and master's studies in April 2019 received the status of specialized accreditation of the independent Agency ARQA for accreditation and examination of the quality of education, registered under the number HE-SA-000063 with the right to prepare a specialty in the period from 2019-2024 academic year.
Since the 2019-2020 academic year, the process of admission to educational programs has been introduced, students and master`s student have been enrolled in the specialty 6B01503-Informatics and information and communication technologies in the education system, 7M01501- Informatics and Informatization of education.
