The first department of Marxism-Leninism was opened in 1950 at the Teachers' Institute in Guryev region.
In 1950, the department was headed by E.M. Polskaya, A.Nurzhakypov, LEFain, DVFomin, GABayandiev, K.Zh.Zhamanbaev, MSAzhenov, MIUtegenov, ESIzbasov, K. A.Abishev, RKMulikov worked.
In 1964 it became a separate department of "Philosophy and Scientific Communism". The newly created department teaches the history of philosophy and dialectical materialism, scientific communism, the basics of scientific atheism, Marxist-Leninist ethics and aesthetics, logic.
During these years, the scientific degree of teachers of the department increased, teachers of the department SK Kusnidenov (1971), RK Mulikov (1972), IG Gimranov (1979) received the degree of Candidate of Philosophical Sciences. G. Gabdulov, NS Gabdulova, graduates of the "Philosophy" department of Kazakh State University (now Al-Farabi Kazakh National University) MI Iskakov, SK Kapizov, KE Kizatova, Moscow named after M. Lomonosov KK Kurmashev, a graduate of the State University.
In 1980-1990 the department was headed by G.Zh. Nurysheva, MI Tapishev, AA Kenzhebayev, RM Kireeva, graduates of the "Philosophy" department of Kazakh State University, O.K. Bekezhan, as well as Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Associate Professor TF Zhasambambetov, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor KE Ermekov, graduate of the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute EIMranov. In different years at the department MS Azhenov, RK Mulikov, SK Kusnidenov, OK Bekezhan, AA Кенжебаев, С.Б. Aimuratov was the head.
The subject of "scientific communism", which was the basis of the former Soviet ideology, later became the disciplines of "political science" and "sociology". Introduction of disciplines required to bring the department's program in line with international standards. The curriculum was freed from totalitarian ideological pressure and focused on global, national and cultural values. The department is one of the leaders in the university in terms of staffing with academic degrees.
In different years the department has a doctor of philosophical sciences, professor, academician of the Academy of Sociology of Kazakhstan MS Azhenov, doctor of philosophical sciences, professor, K.A. Abishev, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, K.E. Ermekov, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, G.Zh. Nurysheva, Doctor of Sociology K.B. Shuptibayeva Ph.D. B.M. Atash worked.
As a general university department, the department taught philosophy, political science, sociology, cultural studies, religion, formal logic and history and philosophy of science to undergraduates. Bekezhan UK, Kenzhebayev AA, Lukpanov AA conducted fundamental research on the research project published by the SC RK (2007-2009).
The department gives lectures on political, social, religious, cultural issues in state and public organizations, publishes articles in regional and national publications and holds conferences.
The department is affiliated with the Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Religion of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Al-Farabi. KazNU works closely with the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science, the regional department of internal policy, the Department of Religious Affairs, the APK, the Philosophical Congress of Kazakhstan.
Currently, the department teaches the following disciplines: "Philosophy", "Module of socio-political knowledge" (political science, sociology, cultural studies), "History and Philosophy of Science" for master's degree.
