In the 1999-2000 academic year, the Department of "criminal law and customs disciplines" was first established at the faculty of history and law of the Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau State University.
In September 2000, in accordance with the structural changes of the newly formed law faculty, a special Department of "legal and customs disciplines" was equipped.
On March 3, 2001, the Department of "legal and customs disciplines" was abolished, where the departments of "civil rights" and "Criminal law and customs disciplines" were created.
In the 2005-2006 academic year, the Department of Civil law and the Department of criminal law disciplines were merged, creating the "civil and criminal law disciplines" and "theoretical law and customs disciplines".
On September 18, 2008-2009, the Department of "theoretical law and customs disciplines", "civil law disciplines" and "criminal law disciplines" was reorganized into special departments of the faculty of law.
In the 2011-2012 academic year, in accordance with the structural transformations of the faculty of law, the departments "General legal disciplines", "law", "fundamentals of customs and law" were created at the faculty.
At the beginning of the 2012-2013 academic year, the faculty of law of Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau state University was abolished, reorganized into the faculty of Economics and law, and the Department of theory and history of state and law and special legal disciplines was created in the specialty 030100-Jurisprudence. In the 2014-2015 academic year, these departments were merged, and the Department of Law continued to train specialists. In the 2015-2016 academic year, the departments were reallocated and created the departments of "civil law disciplines" and "criminal law disciplines".
In the 2017-2018 academic year, the Department of "criminal law disciplines" of Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau State University was organized jointly with the Department of "criminal law disciplines".
In the 2018-2019 academic year, 6B04202 "law enforcement activities" was allocated.
Since the 2019-2020 academic year, the Department of law has been divided into two departments of criminal law disciplines and the Department of civil law disciplines. Since February 24, 2020, Renat Nurlybekovich Shaikhadenov, PhD, was appointed head of the Department of criminal law disciplines.
In the 2018-2019 academic year, the master's program was opened 7M04201 currently 29 master students are studying.
