The purpose of the Department:
to prepare students to work on the organization and management of various aspects of oral and written performance in a foreign language, perception, understanding, and application of language relations in achieving high-quality translation and communication goals.
The Department operates in three main areas:
• educational-methodical;
• scientific-research;
• educational process
In order to improve the quality of training, there is a multimedia center with 25 seats and interactive equipment. In addition, speech laboratories, auditoriums and classrooms, computer rooms connected to the Internet, a library with foreign language material, and a video library are provided for free use by students.
Students of the Department have the opportunity to study English, German, French, and Chinese.
Aspects of foreign language teaching: translation theory, translation practice, country studies, business foreign language, literary translation practice, translation practice of socio-political texts, translation practice of scientific and technical texts, practical grammar, practical phonetics, term papers on translation.
In order to improve the skills of scientific and pedagogical staff, the professional level of students, the faculty of multilingual education cooperates with domestic universities and universities of near and far abroad. Under the program of international academic mobility, teachers and students of the University visited various universities in Kazakhstan, Russia, the United States, England, France, Germany, China, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Turkey, Bulgaria, Poland, Spain, Malaysia, Portugal, Kyrgyzstan, Egypt. they had the opportunity to improve their skills, attend a number of interesting courses, and exchange experience.
The faculty has various clubs: "Oratory", "Translation Bureau", “French Speaking Club” "Young terminology", "Problems of linguistics and linguoculturology", "Drama club". The work of circles and clubs is aimed at teaching oratory, speech culture, as well as organizing meetings with foreign embassies and citizens working in foreign companies in Atyrau, participating in various foreign fairs as interpreters, and improving the level of knowledge.
The translators' club, a network of student-translation clubs "Drama Club", "English Club", organized at the Department, increases activity among young people, takes prizes in international, national and regional competitions. Students of the Department in their specialty pass training and production practice in the companies “Kazakhstanskaya Akademiya Perevoda", "CP Hotels Atyrau", JSC "АТМА-Atyrau Airport and transportation", SP "Language Laboratory", Department of "Translation studies and foreign languages" have thematic information in various directions. The book contains statements of famous people-serious and joking, philosophical and sarcastic-that fully reflect the essence of a man.
In September 2015 an agreement was signed to open a branch of the department on the specialty "Translation and Translation Studies" at the modern Pre-Caspian College.
In December 2023 an agreement was signed to open a branch of the department on specialty 6B02301 "Translation and Translation Studies" at Atyrau Humanitarian College named after K. Dutbayeva..
